Player of the Week - Fall Recap

Below are the Capilano University Blues Players of the Week for the 2016 fall semester.

Week 1 – Keith Jackson

Keith scored 3 goals in the Blues 5-0 victory over the Langara Falcons and also tallied 1 assist in the 1-0 opening day victory over the Quest Kermodes.

Week 2 – Edris Najm

Edris scored both goals in the Blues 2-1 victory over the VIU Mariners this past weekend. He also had a strong game against the Douglas College Royals on Sunday where he helped to create quality scoring chances.

 

Week 3 – Keith Jackson 

Keith continued his offensive push scoring 2 goals as the Blues defeated the Langara Falcons 4-0 this past weekend. He has now scored 5 goals in 5 games and leads the PACWEST BC in goals.

 

Week 4 – Kristian Yli-Hietanen

Kristian Yli-Hietanen is the reigning PACWEST rookie of the year and scored his first goal of the weekend on Saturday against the VIU Mariners in a 2-0 victory. Then on Sunday, he exploded to score three goals in the first half en route to a 6-0 Blues victory. Yli-Hietanen’s four goal performance led the Blues to a two win weekend against the PACWEST’s toughest competition.

Week 5 – Taylor Einhorn

Taylor played a key role in their Thursday night match vs Quest University with the go ahead goal helping her team to a 2-1 victory. Her dominant play in right midfield led to many scoring opportunities. She now has 4 goals in PACWEST league play and is 1 goal away from tying the league leader.

Week 6 – Tyneille Neufeld

Tyneille played a pivotal role for the Blues this past weekend as they defeated the UFV Cascades 3-0. She picked up 4 kills, 3 digs and 2 aces in two sets played.

Week 7 – Keith Jackson

The 3rd year forward was dominant for the Blues through two victories and a tie finishing the week with four goals. Jackson worked tirelessly in a make-up game on Thursday having many scoring opportunities and creating many for his teammates while scoring the winning goal in a 2-0 win over the Quest University Kermodes. He continued his hot streak on Saturday scoring two goals against the Vancouver Island University Mariners. Jackson also scored the Blues only goal in the regular season finale on Sunday to end the game in a 1-1 draw against the Douglas College Royals. Jackson finishes the regular season with a conference leading 11 goals.

Week 8 – Taylor Einhorn and Nic Morello

Nic helped his team repeat as PACWEST BC (Pacific Western Athletic Association) Provincial Champions as the Blues defeated the Douglas College Royals 4-2 Saturday evening. Nic was honored with the tournament MVP award for his efforts.


Taylor was an offensive threat throughout the entire tournament, as she has been all season. She was honored with the tournament Top Forward award as a result of her relentless attack.

 

Week 9 – Sherrie Errico

Errico led the way as the Blues swept their games versus the Camosun Chargers (81-58) and the VIU Mariners (69-40) this past weekend. On Friday night, she shot an impressive 8 of 15 from the field and led the team in scoring with 23 points in 31 minutes of playing time. She also led the team with seven rebounds. Then on Saturday, she continued her aggressive play against the Mariners as she scored 17 points and had three assists in 27 minutes on the floor.

 

Week 10 – Nic Morello

Nic helped lead the Blues to a bronze medal at the 2016 CCAA Men's Soccer National Championship this past weekend. He was named Player of the Match in the bronze medal match against the Algonquin Thunder and a Championship All-Star for his efforts during the tournament.

Week 11 – Simon Friesen

The second year setter showed unbelievable leadership both on and off the court against the CCAA’s top ranked team this past weekend. He led his club to a pair of hard fought five set matches, handing the VIU Mariners their first loss on Friday, then came up just short on Saturday, falling by three points. He had a total of 97 set assists with only five errors in 10 sets of volleyball and added a total of 28 digs throughout the weekend.

Week 12 – Kira Sutcliffe

Kira had one of her best performances of the season last weekend. She tallied 10 kills, 7 digs and 1 block on Friday and exploded for 21 kills, 13 digs, 3 blocks and 1 ace on Saturday. Her leadership and dominance on the court helped the team battle back from a 2 set deficit on Saturday to sweep the weekend set against the Camosun College Chargers.

Week 13 – Kevin Chiu

Despite a difficult make up match, Kevin continued his outstanding debut season as a Blue. He managed 11 kills and 8 digs in a 3-0 loss against the UFV Cascades last Thursday.
