In his first season with the Capilano University Blues men’s basketball team, forward Denver Sparks-Guest was named a PACWEST First Team All-Star, as voted upon by the conference’s head coaches.

A fourth-year transfer from the University of the Fraser Valley, Sparks-Guest quickly established himself as one of the top scorers in the league. He finished the season second in the PACWEST in scoring with an average of 19.8 points per game, and was sixth in rebounding with 7.8 boards per contest. A threat to score from anywhere on the court, Sparks-Guest shot 41.1 percent from the floor and also drained 37 three-pointers – the sixth-most in the league. He also averaged 1.7 steals per game, the fourth-best mark in the conference.

A Communications student at CapU, Sparks-Guest was named PACWEST and CCAA Athlete of the Week during the week of January 22-28. In two games against Camosun that weekend, he totaled 37 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, four assists, and two blocks.

The award comes one day before the playoffs get started for CapU men’s basketball team. Ranked fifth at the PACWEST Championships hosted by Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, the Blues will take on the #4 Camosun College Chargers on Thursday, March 1 at 8:00pm. The game can be viewed online at
