It’s a battle of the Blues in the opening round of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Basketball Nationals, as the Capilano University Blues face Montreal’s Dawson College Blues at 4:00pm PST on Thursday, March 15. All games are hosted by Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.

CapU, the PACWEST champions, heads into the tournament as the #4 seed on the A-side of the bracket and faces 1A Dawson of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ – Quebec Student Sport Federation). The defending CCAA silver medalists, Dawson went 14-0 during the regular season and defeated Collège Montmorency in the RSEQ Championship final.

Capilano went 13-5 during the regular season and defeated Camosun College 75-70 in the PACWEST final to earn their berth at nationals. It’s their first time back at the tournament since 2011 and their sixth trip overall in program history. Their best finish was fourth place back in 1988.

Capilano’s last game at Nationals was against Dawson, as the two sides squared off in the bronze semifinal. Dawson won that game 81-65 and CapU finished in 5th/6th place.

CapU is guaranteed at least three games at the tournament, which runs until March 17. All games at CCAA Nationals can be viewed online through the CCAA site.
