On the heels of a 2-1 win on Saturday, the Capilano University Blues women’s soccer team remained undefeated during the 2017 PACWEST regular season, playing to a 0-0 draw against the Vancouver Island University Mariners on Sunday afternoon at Lillooet Park in North Vancouver.
The Blues had several scoring opportunities throughout the contest, but saw their chances either go just wide of the net or be stopped by VIU goalkeeper Alex DeMille. The best chance came in the 37th minute when rookie Catrina Olstrom found space and chipped a ball that looked destined to find the back of the net, but DeMille leaped back and got her fingers on it to tip it over the bar.
Olstrom had another great chance out of halftime that forced a diving save, and a Cap header a minute later was barely off target. The Mariners responded with an attack of their own, but two of their best scoring opportunities went wide of the net. Brittney Roussy played in net for Cap, and had to make just one save en route to recording a shutout.
Capilano maintained the majority of the pressure in the second half and placed several strong crosses into the area, yet were still unable to find the back of the net.
The Blues now sit at 1-2-0 through three regular season contests, with their five points putting them at the top of the PACWEST conference. Through four games, VIU is 1-2-1 to also give them five points.
Capilano hits the road next weekend, making a short trip to take on Langara College on Sunday, September 24. Kick-off is at 12:00pm at the Musqueam Turf in Vancouver.
