Capilano University Athletics & Recreation would like to extend our condolences to the friends and family of Gareth Morgan, who passed away on December 31, 2017. Morgan attended Capilano College between 1991 and 1994, and played for the Blues men’s soccer team.
“Capilano University Athletics and Recreation is deeply saddened by the passing of one of our alumni student-athletes, Gareth Morgan. Gareth was a fullback on the Capilano Blues men’s soccer team, and was well-liked by everyone he came in contact with – including his Capilano soccer teammates and the staff at Blues Athletics,” said Milt Williams, CapU Manager of Athletics and Recreation.
“He was a tenacious fullback, but more importantly he was very coachable and a very nice kid. I also know that he volunteered with his church group in third world countries. He was one of those kids I never had to worry about,” said Joe Iacobellis, who coached Morgan during his time at Capilano.
Morgan won a Provincial and National Soccer championship with the Blues in 1991, and also represented Canada at the XI Pan American Games in Havana that same year. He was a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian and the Conference Player of the Year in 1993-94.
A Facebook page has been set-up in Gareth’s memory to share memories and photos.
