The Capilano University Athletics & Recreation Department is pleased to announce Alexander Elliott as the new head coach of the Capilano University Blues men’s soccer team.
Highly involved in the BC soccer scene, Elliott has achieved success locally and internationally as both a coach and player. He comes to CapU after four seasons as the head coach at Quest University in Squamish, where he helped turn around their men’s soccer program. He led the Kermodes to their first PACWEST medal in his first season, and overall won two PACWEST bronze medals and a silver.
“I’m thrilled to be working with the Blues athletics department,” said Elliott. "Much respect to Paul, Bob, Joe, Sajbo, and Jim for creating such a prestigious and successful program throughout the past 40 years. I am eager to bring a national championship back to Capilano.” The Blues last won CCAA gold in 2008, and won silver in 2015.
Elliott is well-versed and dedicated towards player development in the local soccer community. Since 2017 he has coached with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, where he works with the U14 and U15 residency teams. He is also a Director and Coach at BCSPL club Fusion FC, which works with Vancouver’s elite youth soccer players. Elliott is also the Co-Director and Founder of the Vancouver Futsal Association, Futsal Club Vancouver, as well as a Board Member for Futsal Canada. In 2018, he co-founded the Urban Soccer Centre in North Vancouver.
“I am pleased that Alex Elliott has accepted the head coaching position,” said Milt Williams, CapU Manager of Athletics & Recreation. “As I move the program in a new direction, I believe Alex is the right person for the job. He has the knowledge and ability to make our men’s team national collegiate champions again.
“Alex is a leader who empowers individuals by building trust and competence in his coaching ability. Players have told me he listens and that he’s aware of how to ignite passion and motivate players to be excited to play. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, is a good recruiter, and is well-connected in the soccer community.”

Elliott got his start coaching with Football Club Kaiserslautern of the German Youth Bundesliga in 2012 after retiring as a player. He has since obtained his UEFA A Diploma and UEFA B Diploma, as well as his CSA National B Coaching License in Canada.
As a player, Elliott was a part of the Canada Youth and Adult National Team programs in both soccer and futsal from 2000 through 2012. He also represented Canada at the 2007 FIFA U20 Youth World Cup and the 2012 Futsal FIFA World Cup Qualifications.
A Vancouver native, Elliott played NCAA Division 1 soccer at the University of Portland – twice leading the West Coast Conference in points and twice earning First Team All-Conference honours. He went on the play internationally in Germany with SportFreunde Siegen 1899 and FSV Mainz 05, and then back home with the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Elliott is the sixth head coach in Capilano Blues men’s soccer history. Since 1977 the Blues have won six CCAA National Championships and 14 Provincial gold medals, and in 1999 Capilano won the CCAA Quarter-Century Men’s Soccer Supremacy Award.
