In a Thursday night PACWEST men’s soccer clash, the Langara College Falcons got the best of the Capilano University Blues with a 4-1 victory at Fox Field in Burnaby.
Langara was powered by two goals apiece from Matias Guedes and Emmanuel Ekeh. Guedes opened the scoring in the second minute on a strike from the top of the box that found the top right corner, and Ekeh doubled the lead six minutes later on a partial breakaway. At the 36 minute mark, Guedes got his third of the season on another rocket that made it 3-0 going into halftime.
The Blues developed more chances on offence in the second half, but couldn’t crack goalkeeper Kevin Monk and the Falcons’ backline. Then off a corner kick in the 60th minute, Ekeh got his eighth of the season to make it a four-goal advantage.
CapU got one back in the 74th when Jeremy Monn-Djasngar got behind the defence and scored his fifth of the year, but that was as close as the Blues got. Monk made a few more saves down the stretch, and recorded a total of six as part of a solid effort in net.
Capilano falls to 4-2-2 on the season and fails to make-up ground on Douglas, who remains in first place by three points. Langara improves to 2-4-2 and sits in third with eight points.
The Blues have the weekend off and will square off with Langara for their fourth and final match-up of the year on Saturday, September 13 at Musqueam Park in Vancouver. The remaining four games of the regular season for CapU are all on the road; CapU then hosts the PACWEST Championships on October 26 and 27 at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex.
