The 2020-21 season will be the third at CapU for head coach Dave Dooley and comes on the heels of the Blues most successful season ever, culminating in the 2020 CCAA national championship.

The Blues finished the '19-20 regular season in third place with an 18-6 record but played stellar volleyball at the PACWEST tournament including a stunning come-from-behind win to knock off Camosun College in the title match. Outside hitter Rafael Hilario was named the tournament MVP while Simon Friesen and Ben Friesen were named tournament all-stars.

At the 2020 CCAA National Championships hosted at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B., CapU handled Durham College of Ontario 3-0 in their first match before running into perennial power Red Deer College. In a five-set thriller, the Blues prevailed with a 15-13 win in the deciding set. Moving to the national title game with momentum, the Blues took care of Toronto's Humber College in straight sets. Simon Friesen was named the tournament MVP while Ben Friesen, Hilario and Jacob Hopkins were named tournament all-stars.

Dooley is also a head coach with the Seaside Volleyball Club in South Surrey, running their U18 Boys program and beach volleyball program. In 2018 he led their U18 team to provincial gold and national silver, and in 2016 his U16 team didn’t drop a set all season and won a Provincial championship. On the beach, his beach pairing won Provincial gold in 2017.

A native of Surrey, Dooley also has experience coaching at the Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence, as well as with Team BC for both indoor and beach volleyball.

Dooley spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the University of the Fraser Valley’s women’s volleyball team and also was an assistant coach for eight seasons with the Camsoun College men’s volleyball team under head coach Charles Parkinson, helping them to three PACWEST championships and one CCAA National title.

A life-long educator, Dooley is an Education Services Teacher in Surrey. He is a graduate of the University of Victoria, where he received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education.
