The Capilano University Blues men’s and women’s soccer teams continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, as both teams secured wins over the Langara College Falcons to keep them in the top half of the PACWEST standings with one week remaining in the regular season.
Capilano – 1
Langara – 0
It took 81 minutes, but after several chances, Capilano broke a scoreless deadlock when forward Brooklynn Doucette scored her first of the season to put her team in front. It proved to be all the offence the Blues needed, as the Blues allowed just two shots all contest en route to recording a clean sheet.
Jessica Price earned praise from head coach Dennis Kindel for her job controlling the back line and minimizing Langara’s opportunities. Brittney Roussy and Nikki Gerbrandt split the goaltending duties and combined to earn the shutout; the Blues have now not allowed a goal over their last 281 minutes played.
CapU improves to 4-4-1, and remains in second place in the PACWEST with 16 points. They sit four points back of first place Douglas, but hold two games in hand.
The Blues play three games in the final week of the regular season as part of their tune-up for provincials. On Tuesday, October 17, 2017 they visit Quest University in Squamish; on Saturday, October 21 they head to Coquitlam to play Douglas College; and to wrap up the season they’re back at home to host Vancouver Island University on Sunday, October 22.

Capilano jumped out to an early lead against Langara and didn’t look back, scoring three times in each half en route to a 6-1 victory over the Falcons on Sunday in Vancouver.
Rookie striker Adrian Sahagun opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his third goal of the season, and Nicolas Morello pushed the lead to two seven minutes later after he finished off an overlapping run. Midfielder Matt Fedak made it 3-0 before the half with his first of the season in the 36th.
Morello iced the game out of the break, scoring twice in four minutes to record his first career PACWEST hat trick.
