Georgette Reed was hired in April 2022 as the fourth Athletic Director in the history of Capilano University.
Prior to joining CapU, Reed worked for the City of Edmonton as Health and Wellness Coordinator with Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Her experience creating and delivering proactive physical and mental wellbeing programming are a key asset in her role at CapU. Reed's work with local government bodies and national and provincial sport organizations is also an asset in setting a course for Capilano University's Athletics and Recreation Department.
Reed is a former Canadian Olympian and represented Canada in shot put at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. The native of Regina, Sask. also competed for Canada at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, B.C. and was team captain for Canada's track and field entry to the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, Alta. She is a 17-time Canadian champion with 15 titles in shot put and two in discus.
After finishing her competitive career, Reed was the head coach of track and field at the University of Alberta from 2002 to 2012. While coaching at U of A, she completed a master's degree in physical education and recreation and was a sessional instructor in the University's kinesiology department.
A graduate of Washington State University, Reed was an All-American in shot put for the Cougars and remains a school record holder in the event.
