Title: Head Coach

After a successful 2024 campaign - the first winning season for the Blues since 2018 - Steve Millar heads into 2025 with aims to take the team back to the top of the PACWEST.

Last season was Millar's second leading Capilano and all-star seasons from defender Riley Marshall, captain Tommy Millar and striker Sebastian Cirotto helped CapU to a 6-4-2 mark, good enough for second in the PACWEST standings. The Blues scored just 16 goals in the 12-game season, half of those from Cirotto, and ran into offensive trouble in the postseason, getting blanked 3-0 by Douglas in the PACWEST semifinal.

Millar hopes to diversify the Blues offensive outlook in the coming season, with continual work on the recruiting trail to add to the contributions of Cirotto, Millar and the graduated Jeremy Monn-Djasngar.

In 2025, Graydon Sherle will be given the starter's workload in goal with a battle expected among incoming recruits to claim backup duties. Marshall should again anchor the back line with support from 2024 rookie standout Eric Town. Millar will provide the glue in the middle of the park while up front, Cirotto has proven lethal in scoring areas with with Andrew Cerqueira showing the ability to support when called on.

Millar's coaching resume includes his current work with Fusion FC where he heads up multiple teams, the most senior of which is the club's men's U21 side that won the 2022 Vancouver Metro Soccer League and provincial championship. He also has recent experience as a head coach and technical director of the Fraser Valley Premier soccer club. Millar holds a National B license coaching certification from the Canadian Soccer Association.

A native of North Delta, B.C., Millar won a high school provincial championship with North Delta Secondary in 1988 before moving on to play a season at Simon Fraser University. A defender in his playing days, Millar was part of Canada's national youth program and was part of the player pool for the 1992 Olympics. His professional career saw him play six seasons between the Canadian Soccer League and the American Professional Soccer League, including stops with the Winnipeg Fury, Edmonton Brick Men and Vancouver 86ers, the club he concluded his pro career with in 1994.

Since retiring as a professional player, Millar has been a firefighter with the City of Vancouver, attaining the rank of Battalion Chief.
