The Capilano University Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce Chris Weimer as the new head coach the Blues women's basketball team.
Weimer is no stranger to the CapU program, having been an assistant coach on the Blues women's basketball team for the past six seasons. He was instrumental in the team's recent success, which included a PACWEST gold medal in 2017-18, two regular season championships, and three silver medals. He takes over the head coaching duties from Ramin Sadaghiani, who has stepped away from coaching after moving to Kelowna to pursue a new career opportunity with ICBC.
"I'm very excited and thankful for this opportunity and challenge," said Weimer. "Having spent the past six years as an assistant coach with the Blues women's basketball team, I feel the timing is right to make the transition back to head coaching. Although the team will be in a rebuilding phase, our goal will remain the same: working towards and competing for Provincial and National Championships. I am looking forward to the chance to continue to work with returning athletes, coaches and the athletics staff at Capilano University."
Weimer has a strong connection to the North Shore basketball community, having been the head coach at Seycove Secondary and Sutherland Secondary for nearly two decades. He also is the head instructor for the North Vancouver School Basketball Academy – North Vancouver Districts.
"I am very happy Chris has accepted our offer to take on the head coaching role with the Blues," said Milt Williams, CapU Manager of Athletics and Recreation. "Chris is a talented young coach and will bring a great deal of passion, experience and enthusiasm to the position. He will be an asset to our department and I look forward to working with him."
Weimer becomes the eighth head coach in Capilano Blues women's basketball history.
