Title: Head Coach

Chris Weimer enters his eighth season as the head coach of the CapU women's basketball team in 2025-26.

An up-and-down 2024-25 season culminated in the PACWEST bronze medal for Weimer and the Blues. Preseason injuries took the services of Teigan Manson, transfer Sheleese Hoilett and veteran Alexa Kusel away from the Blues for the entirety of the campaign. That meant major minutes for forwards Maddy Coffin (13.2 pts, 4.6 rbs per game) and Barcha Hnizdilova who averaged near a double-double with 13.5 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. For the second year in a row, an international recruit took PACWEST Rookie of the Year honours as Mia Parkin, a native of Adelaide, Australia, claimed the trophy after posting 15 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, starting all 24 Blues contests.

Despite the strong individual showings, the Blues ended with a 10-14 mark in PACWEST regular season play and entered the provincial tournament, hosted at CapU, as the No. 4 seed. The Blues dusted Langara in the quarterfinals in a 77-51 victory with Parkin scoring 21 points while pulling down 12 boards. Capilano ran into eventual tournamnent champions VIU in the semifinals and succumbed 67-53 despite 14 points and seven assists from Jenna Griffin. The Blues earned a podium finish, defeating Douglas 61-49 in the bronze-medal game with Coffin scoring 20 including a pair of threes on her way to a tournament all-star nod.

In the season ahead, Capilano will continue to need major work from Coffin, Hnizdilova and Parkin and should have Manson, Hoilett and Kusel back in the fold. Incoming talent includes 6-foot-1 international Lucia Lopez, a native of Spain, as well as transfers Olivia Rozinsky and Cassiel Penalosa.

Prior to taking the head coach role, Weimer previously served as the assistant coach with the Blues women's basketball for team six seasons. He was instrumental in guiding the team to a PACWEST gold medal in 2017-18, as well as two regular season championships, and three silver medals.

Weimer has a strong connection to the North Shore basketball community, having been the head coach at Seycove Secondary and Sutherland Secondary for nearly two decades. He also is the head instructor for the North Vancouver School District's Basketball Academy.
