Simon Friesen rejoined the Blues coaching staff in June of 2025, previously having helped guide the Blues during the 2021-22 season.
One of the most decorated Blues players of all-time, Friesen played five seasons for the Blues from 2015 to 2020 culminating in a CCAA National Championship in his final campaign when he played alongside his twin brother Ben. The setter from Abbotsford, B.C. was a four-time PACWEST First-Team All-Star and a three-time CCAA All-Canadian. In 2018, he was named the CCAA Player of the Year and took the Sport BC College Athlete of the Year Award.
At the 2020 CCAA National Championship at St. Thomas University in New Brunswick, Friesen helped the Blues to what is, so far, their only men’s volleyball national title. After wins over Durham College, Red Deer College, Capilano faced Humber College for gold and scored a straight-sets win. Friesen was named Tournament MVP.
Friesen is the Blues all-time leader in aces with 99 and is fourth all-time in both digs (699) and blocks (141).
