| Title: | Head Coach |
The 2024 season is the 10th at the helm of Blues women's soccer for Dennis Kindel. He marks a decade on the job with extra anticipation as Capilano University and Blues Department of Athletics and Recreation prepare to host the 2024 CCAA Women's Soccer National Championship from Nov. 6 to 9 at the CapU-Squamish campus.
Kindel's teams have earned PACWEST medals in each of the last six seasons but had to settle for silver in 2023 after being upended 3-1 by Douglas College in the 2023 PACWEST gold-medal game. The Blues graduated several long-serving standouts last season with Alanah Dulong, Aynsley Hurtado, Catrina Olstrom, Julia Peyton and Jessika Thaler concluding their distinguished careers. Dulong led the PACWEST in scoring in 2023 with eight tallies in 12 games while Hurtado and Peyton again handled major minutes in midfield and defender spots respectively. Olstrom's offensive flair and Thaler's quick-strike ability will be hard to replace moving forward but veterans Maya Smith, Mya Fraser, Lauren Grey are proven difference-makers and will lead the team in the drive to nationals. Returning talents Kaitlyn Johnson and Taylor Melnyk will provide support up front while Isabella Bolognese, Sophie Pather and Alexis King will contribute wherever they're needed.
Coach Kindel has nearly 20 years of experience coaching female student-athletes in high performance programs. He has coached in the Pacific Coast League, Y-League, Premier Division, BC Soccer Premier League and USports and manages the West Vancouver Sentinel Secondary soccer academy. He began his coaching career in 2002 when he was an assistant coach in the IPL female soccer league. Since then, Kindel has led his teams to five national championship appearances, won three BC provincial titles and two league championship titles.
As a student-athlete, Kindel was an accomplished goalkeeper throughout his career at Capilano College from 2001 to 2004. Kindel captained the team to a gold medal at the 2003 CCAA National Championships, earning the CCAA Best Goalkeeper award and winning three conference all-star awards. Kindel also played for the U-17 Canadian national team, U-23 Canadian Olympic team, Vancouver Whitecaps Reserve team, Simon Fraser University, and for the Doncaster Rovers Football Club (Third Division) in England. Kindel also won a national title with the Metro Ford men’s team.
