The Capilano University Blues men’s volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon in North Vancouver, as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Vancouver Island University Mariners.
After yesterday’s five-set win over VIU, the Blues struggled to maintain their same level of play. The Mariners set the tone in the first set with strong serving and defence, and hit at a .704 percentage en route to a 25-18 win. Despite some substitutions, Capilano couldn’t get much going in the second set either, posting a .000 hitting percentage in the frame. VIU countered at .529, and took a two-set lead with a 25-15 decision.
VIU continued to roll on the heels of Friday’s defeat – their first of the season – and in the third set made no mistake with a 25-18 victory that closed out the match and earned them a series split.
Capilano now sits at 5-1 and in third place in the PACWEST through four weeks of play. They now head to Victoria for a two-game series against #12 ranked Camosun College, who is right behind CapU in the standings. The Blues have one more home game left in the 2018 portion of the season, which is Sunday, November 25 against Douglas College.
