Blues basketball goes 4-0 at home

After a thrilling one-point victory over the Langara Falcons last weekend, the CapU Blues men's basketball team looked to build on their performance as they hosted the CBC Bearcats (1-10) and the KPU Eagles (0-11) at the Sportsplex. On Friday night, the Blues led the entire game and ran away with a 99-77 victory over the Bearcats. It was a team effort for the Blues as they had five players in double figures on the night with Martin Bogajev leading the way with 16 points. On Saturday night, the Blues dominated the Eagles to cruise to a 91-45 win, improve to 7-4 on the season and into a tie for third-place in the PACWEST. The Blues were led by first-year forward, Chris Loreth (15 points), second-year forward Reese Morris (14 points) and Bogajev (14 points).

While head coach Cassidy Kannemeyer was pleased with his team's effort and discipline this past weekend, as they travel to the island, he says it's important that the team "continues to build on our mental discipline… It's the toughest road trip of the year, and to win both games we can't get rattled or play scared. We have to be aggressive on both ends and we have to play physical."

The Blues women's basketball team also took care of business at home to improve to 9-2 on the season and a strong hold of third-place in the PACWEST. On Friday night, the Blues defeated the CBC Bearcats 68-39 behind 14 points by second-year guard Sherrie Errico and on Saturday night they picked up the win against the KPU Eagles (76-38) as five players scored in double figures. Head coach Ramin Sadaghiani attributed the weekend success to the entire team, "we didn't have a player dominate the scoring…we had a balanced attack and had numerous players in double-digit scoring."

The CapU Blues are headed to the island this coming weekend to take on the VIU Mariners on Friday, Jan. 22nd (6/8 p.m.) and the Camosun Chargers on Saturday, Jan. 23rd (1/3 p.m.).
