TJ Klim joined the Blues coaching staff in June 2023.
He was the Lead Assistant Coach for the 2023-24 season and helped the Blues earn a Bronze medal finish at the PACWEST Provincial Championship. He continued with the team as Lead Assistant Coach for the 2024-2025 season, which saw the Blues capture the PACWEST Provincial Championship and then head to Montreal to represent the conference at the CCAA National Championship.
Basketball is a sport that runs deep within him and his family. T.J. played his High School basketball at Clarence Fulton in Vernon, B.C. After he completed his high school career, he moved to La Rochelle, France, on an exchange trip for a year. There, he was fortunate enough to play within the semi-pro league for a season with ASPTT La Rochelle and Rupella.
Once he returned from Europe, he knew that if he wasn’t going to be able to play, then he wanted to start coaching. T.J. enters his 26th year of coaching basketball this season and is excited to bring all his experience and work alongside his team at Capilano.
His coaching career has taken him from being the first-ever basketball coach at Unity Christian to coaching Middle School basketball at Chief Dan George in Abbotsford, Football at Mouat Secondary in Abbotsford, Assistant Coach of senior varsity Basketball at GW Graham Secondary in Chilliwack, and Gr 8 Boys Coach at Mount Slesse Middle School.
T.J. has always believed in being involved in sports and promoting young people to play on their school or community teams. He has coached Baseball, Basketball, Football, Track and Field, Volleyball, Rugby, and Drag Racing. He has also been an Athletic Director while teaching at Chief Dan George Middle and Mount Slesse Middle School.
T.J. cares most about family. He has been married to his beautiful and supportive wife, Michelle, for the past 26 years. Together, they have four children: Matthias, Zachary, Ty, and Brooklyn.
Basketball runs deep in this family, and every one of the Klim children plays at the University and College levels. Matthias enters his fifth year playing for the UFV Cascades, Zachary will be entering his fourth year playing for the Capilano Blues, Ty will be in his second season with the Blues, and Brooklyn will be in her second season as she joins the Columbia Bible College Bearcats.
T.J. is extremely proud of his children and supports them however and whenever possible. His wife, Michelle, is a Team Mom for all her kids’ teams and teammates, and they both have an open-door policy for all athletes. At least 5-6 players from his kids’ teams have lived with them in Chilliwack at one point. They have a great support network for all the players and are respected within the Basketball community.
