The Capilano University Blues women’s volleyball team nearly pulled off an upset victory over the CCAA #3 ranked Douglas College Royals on Saturday night, but dropped a 3-2 decision in their final regular season game of 2018-19.
The Blues started the game strong, pulling out a 25-21 win in the opening frame and then using a 15-3 run to close out a convincing 25-11 victory in the second. The third set was again close, but this time it time it was Douglas who persevered by breaking open a 15-15 tie and keeping the match alive with a 25-21 win.
CapU had the win on their fingertips in the fourth, battling back from an early four-point deficit to bring up match point at 24-22. Yet the Royals stayed alive, winning the next four points out of a timeout to force a fifth and final set. The fifth set saw the Blues again battle back from an early hole and bring the score to within one at 12-11, but again Douglas rallied to win the next three points and secure the comeback win.
