The final Blues athletes of the week for 2019 are Daphiny Kung of women's volleyball and Michael Kelly of men's hoops. Both players helped their teams head into the exam and holiday break on a high note.
Kung, the first-year outside hitter from Surrey, racked up 11 points of total offense Friday in a Blues straight-sets win over the visiting University of the Fraser Valley. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter posted a .263 hitting percentage on nine kills but was also stellar on the defensive side where she collected 13 digs. In addition, she used a powerful serve to great effect as she recorded two aces. This is the second-straight game Kung has picked up double digits in offence.
Kelly, a third-year guard, struck for a season-high 29 points in a 93-69 home win Saturday over CBC where he was 7-for-10 from three-point range. He also grabbed four rebounds and handed out two assist to go along with a steal and a block. The 6-foot native of North Vancouver registered a team-high 18 points in a loss Friday at No. 1-ranked Douglas College, giving him 47 points for the weekend.
