The PACWEST All-Stars and All-Rookies have been announced for the 2019-2020 season and six Blues student-athletes have been recognized.
PACWEST Women's 1st Team All-Star: Meghan Koven
The team's only fifth-year player, Meghan lived up to expectations on the court by leading the team in both kills and digs. She was in the top-10 in the PACWEST in both those categories as well. Her work ethic established a good example and set the standard for the team's young players. A North Vancouver native, Meghan will finish her collegiate career in the top-five in Capilano Blues history in both kills and digs.
PACWEST Women's All-Rookie Team: Eva Nagata
Eva showed no difficulty adjusting to the PACWEST game as an international from the Faroe Islands. The 5-foot-10 hitter was second on the team in kills, aces, and points per set. A welcome addition to the Blues roster, Eva gave the team a reliable outside option while being just one of three Blues to suit up for each match to date.
PACWEST Men's 1st Team All-Star: Simon Friesen
Simon was once again the driving force behind the Blues offence this season. With only one returning attacker from the previous season and changing personnel on a nightly basis, Simon proved he has the ability to connect with a variety of athletes, setting them up regularly in isolation. Simon improved particularly in blocking, defence, and was a force from the service line all season, finishing in the top 5 for service aces. He was PACWEST Athlete of the Week for Week 11.
PACWEST Men's 1st Team All-Star: Rafael Hilario
Rafael was an offensive standout for the Blues this season, leading the team in offensive points both as a rightside and a leftside. Not only was he in the top 5 for total kills and attack efficiency, but he also proved to be strong in all areas of the game, finishing in the top 20 for Digs and aces per set, top 30 for blocks/set, and had a passer rating of 2.2 for the season.
PACWEST Men's 2nd Team All-Star: Ben Friesen
Ben was a point of stability for the Blues this season, both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Passing a 2.35 for the season, Ben also proved to be an all-around player appearing on the PACWEST leaderboard in every area of the game. He was in the top 10 for attack efficiency, kills, and digs, the top 15 for service aces, and the top 30 for blocks.
PACWEST Men's All-Rookie Team and Rookie of the Year: Enis Besirevic
With an entirely new group of middle blockers, this Australian high flier jumped in and made an immediate impact. Learning to read block for the first time, Enis worked tirelessly to change old habits and form new ones, paying off as his numbers trended upwards through the season. Enis finished in the top five for blocks, top 25 for kills, and had an attack efficiency of .407 while being the #1 internal option for the Blues. He was PACWEST Athlete of the Week for Week 6.
