A goal from Claire Ye in the 73rd minute helped the Capilano University Blues women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Langara College Falcons on Tuesday afternoon, giving them a crucial three points to put them in the thick of a tight PACWEST conference standings.

With a 3-3-2 record and 11 points, CapU is now tied for third place with Douglas and is one point back of Vancouver Island and Langara who are in a tie for first – although the Blues have four more games remaining, and Douglas and Langara have three. The top three teams qualify for the PACWEST Championships, hosted by CapU at the Burnaby Lake Sports Complex on October 26 and 27.

Ye’s goal came off a free kick by Adrianna Babinski, as the direct shot on net was stopped but Ye was on the doorstep to score off the rebound. The Falcons pressured down the stretch for the equalizer and won a couple of corner kicks, but the CapU back line held strong on each attack. Goalkeeper Nikki Gerbrandt made three saves in the contest to record her first shutout of the season.

CapU and Langara square off for the third time in a row on Saturday afternoon when the two sides play at Musqueam Park in Vancouver. On Sunday the Blues then visit Douglas for their fourth and final meeting.
