A night after getting their first win of the season, the Capilano Blues dropped the second game of the weekend in straight sets Saturday night to the visiting Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats.

Starting setter Lauren Roworth was not available Saturday due to illness so Jayden Easingwood took her place in the lineup and Faith Sahota also saw significant floor time in the setter's spot.

Capilano's offence never really got into gear Saturday and despite some early blocks from Anna Liniewski and some points on the outside from Grace Brisebois, they weren't able to get on any sustained runs before having to give up serve.

With the visitors in command, having taken the first two sets, the Blues once again tried Vanesa Gatto at outside hitter instead of at her usual libero spot and the team responded with their best set of the night in the third set but it was ultimately not enough. A late CapU rally brought the score to 23-24 but CBC put away the final point for their first win of the season.

Both teams sit at 1-9 in the PACWEST standings.

In Friday's opener of the two-game set, Capilano was the tidier of the two sides in taking a three-sets-to-once victory over CBC.

Middle blocker Liniewski and outside hitter Brisebois both made their presences felt at the net as they each recorded multiple blocks. Roworth got the hitters involved, setting up Courtney Muller for a season-high 10 kills while helping Brisebois record 15 to lead all attackers on the night.

With a lengthy period of time for the exam and holiday break, plus a bye week to begin January, the Blues are off until Friday, January 20 when they host the Vancouver Island University Mariners in a 6 p.m. start.
