Straight-sets Setback against visiting VIU

Defending national champions, the Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners, came through the Centre for Sport and Wellness at Capilano University this past weekend and left with a pair of 3-0 wins.

Friday evening's proceedings went 25-13, 25-18 and 25-14 for the Mariners. On Saturday afternoon, it was 25-12, 25-15 and 25-18.

Karoline Tormena led the way for the Mariners with 12 kills and 10 digs across the two outings. She accumulated 15.5 points for the weekend.

For the Blues, rookie Aimee Tilley was productive on Friday seeing her first extended playing time of the season as she recorded five kills, a dig and a block assist. Meghan Koven was the leading Blues point-getter Saturday and provided four kills, seven digs and and solo block to conclude the weekend.

The series against VIU also saw the return to the lineup for veteran Anika Kolybaba. The fourth-year middle blocker from Prince George chalked up four kills in Saturday afternoon's match.

Next up for the Blues is a road trip to Cranbrook for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader Nov. 1 (6 p.m.) and 2 (1 p.m) at the College of the Rockies.
