With a new logo, new colours and a new slogan, Capilano University’s recreation offerings have an updated brand and customized programming for the start of the school year.
CapU’s Department of Athletics and Recreation this week unveiled its new logo and new tagline: Ready. Sweat. Go. CapU Rec is again focused on providing students and staff innovative ways to be active and healthy at a time when doing so is a challenge.
“CapU Rec is about having fun, being healthy and active and feeling included,” said CapU Active Health Programmer Ali Funk. “It was great working with the MDX (marketing and digital experience) team to capture these values in our logo and tag line. The tag line is probably my favourite new piece; hopefully it’s an inspiring call to action for active living.”
Creativity has been key in 2020 as most participants in CapU Rec offerings have had to follow along remotely. That will continue to be the case as the semester begins with live virtual fitness classes led by CapU fitness activity leaders as well as 2020 Recreation Movement, an online library of live and pre-recorded fitness classes from universities around North America.
There are also Fit Bit personal fitness trackers up for grabs as prizes for the CapU Virtual Run Club where participants download the Strava app for tracking movement and participate in monthly virtual races and fitness challenges. The first event of the year is the annual ‘Back to CapU 5km Run/Walk’ taking place Saturday, Sept. 19.
Offering fitness options remains part of the Department of Athletics and Recreation’s wellness and well-being goals. These remote and online classes allow CapU to continue being a leader in providing a well-rounded university experience for staff and students.
“We maintain a strong belief in the importance of active living so I’m very happy with the direction CapU Rec has taken in our department and I’m pleased we are moving forward with this new beginning,” said Capilano University Manager of Athletics and Recreation Milt Williams. “Even with all the obstacles facing us right now, we’re making available to the University community choices that enhance student experience and contribute to healthy living.”
