Maya Smith and Adrian Sahagun earn Athlete of the Week honours.
Maya Smith is the Capilano University Blues Female Athlete of the Week.
Having not scored a PACWEST goal coming into the 2022 season, Smith exploded for a four-goal weekend including a hat trick Saturday in a 3-2 win over Douglas College. The Port Coquitlam product followed that up with a breathtaking strike late in the second half for the game-winning goal in Sunday’s 2-1 result over VIU.
After missing Week 2 due to injury, Smith came off the bench in both games this past weekend, provided energy and skill for the Blues, and helped improve the team’s record to 3-2-1 on the season.
Adrian Sahagun is the Capilano University Blues male Athlete of the Week.
Sahagun scored a crucial penalty kick late is Saturday’s game against Douglas College to secure a point for the Blues. The native of Campeche, Mexico was dangerous in both Blues home games on the weekend, generating eight shots including six in Saturday’s game.
Sahagun now has three goals on the season which ties him for the Blues team lead.
