For her outstanding 2021 campaign with the Capilano Blues women's soccer team, Claire Ye has been named a finalist in the upcoming Sport BC Awards in the College Athlete of the Year category.
Ye turned in a remarkable year for the Blues in her fourth season, helping her side to its first PACWEST provincial championship gold medal since 2007. The Coquitlam native and graduate of Dr. Charles Best Secondary tied for the PACWEST lead with five goals in nine games in a reduced schedule as the conference played its first season post-pandemic.
"I'm honoured to be considered for this accomplishment," said Ye of the SportBC Awards. "I couldn't have done it without all the amazing people I've met and played with during my time at Capilano."
The versatile veteran played every position in the park except goalkeeper for head coach Dennis Kindel in 2021, a season in which she earned each of the following honours:
- PACWEST conference all-star
- Top Midfielder at the PACWEST provincial championships
- PACWEST Player of the Year
- CCAA All-Canadian
- CCAA Academic All-Canadian
- CCAA National Scholar
- PACWEST Academic Excellence Award
- Blues Team Co-MVP
- Blues Female Athlete of the Year
"Claire was a key player for the team, a solid defender for her first few years at CapU," said Kindel. "In her last couple years, her determination and ability up front the find the goal on multiple occasions helped us win gold for the first time since 2007."
Ye is one of five finalists for the award which will be announced at the event March 9 at the Vancouver Convention Centre East.
