The Capilano Blues trip to the CCAA national championship tournament concluded Saturday with a 120-92 defeat to the St. Clair College Saints.
A trio of Blues players recorded double-doubles but it was not enough to overcome a Saints side that shot 55.4 per cent from the floor and hit 21 threes. Jesiah Deerr had 34 off the bench for the Saints and hit nine from downtown.
Each of CJ Campbell, Zach Klim and David Featherston had double-digit points and rebounds with Campbell recording 16 and 11 in his final collegiate game.
The teams traded hoops early in the contest with Capilano holding an 11-10 lead at the five-minute mark of the first quarter. Consecutive threes from St. Clair's Miles Hall put the Saints ahead as the Ontario side built an 11-point edge at the end of the opening frame.
St. Clair maintained their lead the rest of the game and flirted with 30 points each quarter. CapU surrendered triple digits each game at this year's nationals, averaging 113 points against.
Tyrone Asenoguan had 28 to lead Blues scorers for the game. Featherston was named Capilano's Player of the Game after scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
The victory for St. Clair put them into Sunday's bronze-medal game where they faced a familiar Blues foe in Vancouver Island University. VIU ended up with the bronze with a 109-100 win.
Asenoguan was named a CCAA Tournament Second-Team All-Star after averaging 24 points per game.
