They hope there is a lot of basketball yet to come this season, but CJ Campbell and Marko Cosic can look back with satisfaction at their final home game at Capilano University.
Campbell and Cosic formed the Blues starting backcourt Saturday and did what was required in an 89-67 victory over the Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats that improves CapU's PACWEST record to 9-7, which puts them alone in third place.
CapU was ready from the opening tip Saturday with Campbell and Cosic scoring seven and four respectively in the opening frame, including a dunk from Cosic, to give the Blues a double-digit lead after the first quarter.
CBC came to life in the second quarter behind seven points from PACWEST leading scorer Jonathan Dillon but Capilano did enough to maintain their advantage. In the third quarter, a decisive frame for the home side, David Featherston and Josh Dhillon had eight each for Capilano including a pair of threes for Dhillon and CapU upped the lead to 28 going to the fourth quarter.
Zach Klim cleaned the glass Saturday to the tune of 13 rebounds, a Blues season high, while Russell Curley had 14 points in 15 minutes in a reserve role.
On Friday in the first game of the weekend set, Tyrone Asenoguan reached the 30-point mark for the second time this season helping Capilano crest triple digits in a 101-74 win.
CBC was in front after the first quarter but the Blues got 11 from Asenguan in the second plus 13 points off the bench from Cosic, Curley and Ahmad Athman to get in front and they led the rest of the way.
Curley had 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from downtown in just 11 minutes off the bench Friday as he posted his second-highest scoring night of the season.
The final weekend of the PACWEST schedule has CapU at Okanagan College Feb. 17 and 18. Friday's game is an 8 p.m. start and Saturday's will be at 3 p.m.
