A pair of Blues playing their first year with the program in Anika Gatto and Marco Kost earn Athlete of the Week honours.
Anika Gatto is the Capilano University women’s Student-Athlete of the Week.
The Blues libero was a bright spot for her team in a pair of losses on the road at Douglas College.
Gatto was phenomenal on the first touch, making consistent, excellent passes to the Blues setters. As usual, she came up with diving saves all weekend for Capilano, leaving her feet repeatedly to make double-digit digs on both nights.
Gatto gave her team a chance to win each set and displayed excellent leadership for her teammates.
Marco Kost is the Capilano University men’s Student-Athlete of the Week.
The 6-foot-4 German international was instrumental in the Blues earning their first win of the season, a 3-1 victory at Douglas on Friday. Kost tormented the Royals with a wicked lefthanded serve and chalked up seven aces in Friday’s win to go along with eight kills.
In Thursday’s setback at Douglas, Kost had four kills and two aces. The third-year business student was a factor at the net all weekend as he got in on six blocks over the two matches.
