The Capilano Blues ran into a tough defensive team during a weekend road set at the Camosun College Chargers and didn't do themselves many favours with some costly attacking errors as they were dispatched in straight sets both matches.
CapU pushed the Chargers to extra points in the opening set Friday night but the home side but eight Blues swings went long or wide and the ones that were headed for points were frequently rescued by the Camosun defender who covered the hardwood effectively. The Blues hit .071 as a team to Camosun's .333.
Trevor Matthysen was busy for the Blues with 30 swings Friday and managed a team-high seven kills. Marco Kost put away six balls, eight digs and also served up an ace.
Camosun was tidier on attack Friday with just nine errors to CapU's 18. Eduardo Bida totaled 10 kills while Graham Basi had nine to go along with six digs and three aces.
In Saturday's rematch, the Chargers set the tone with a 25-15 win in the opening set. The Blues gave away eight points on serving miscues in the first set.
Dario Pereira wound up reaching 12 kills for the game, including five in the third set which was the closest frame of the afternoon. Tate Wheatley picked up four kills from the middle and also got his hands on two blocks.
Oliver Westhaver played in each set for the first time on the season and the rookie libero showed well on serve receive, handling 20 first touches while also recording seven digs.
Camosun managed the Blues service game handily Saturday, making just one receiving error and allowing just two Blues aces.
CapU is back in action at home Feb. 2 and 3 with games against Douglas College. Friday's game is an 8 p.m. start while Saturday brings first serve at 6 p.m.
