A nine-game win streak is now a two-game slide in the wrong direction for the Capilano Blues after a pair of setbacks on home court against the Douglas College Royals.
Douglas held on for a 72-69 win Friday and in Saturday's rematch, the visitors used a unified front on defence in the first quarter, holding CapU to just nine points - including four from Maddy Coffin - on the way to a 73-61 victory. The Blues found more success shooting the ball in the second frame with Barcha Hnizdilova netting six on her way to a seventh consecutive double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.
Capilano struggled from three-point range in the first half, going 0-for-11. Douglas took command of the game when they hit three from downtown in the third quarter and built a 15-point edge heading to the fourth. Jettie McLaughlin-Sakaki led the Royals on the night with 21 points and 14 boards, including six on the offensive glass. Sereena Hothi provided 13 points off the bench for the Blues including nine in the third quarter.
On Friday, Capilano showed prowess early in the game, securing a slight lead in the first quarter with solid offensive and defensive plays. Despite Douglas College's efforts, Capilano maintained its edge, showcasing its strategic gameplay and cohesive team effort.
As the second quarter unfolded, both teams engaged in a closely contested battle, with neither able to gain a significant advantage. Capilano University held onto its lead with confidence, while Douglas College remained relentless in its pursuit, keeping the game within reach.

In the third quarter, Douglas College mounted a strong offensive surge, outscoring Capilano University and seizing the lead. However, Capilano responded with resilience and determination, refusing to let the game slip away easily. Their tenacious defence and strategic adjustments kept them in contention despite the mounting pressure.
The final quarter was a testament to Capilano's fighting spirit as they made a spirited comeback attempt, narrowing the gap and putting Douglas College on edge. Though they ultimately fell short, Capilano University's performance showcased their grit and determination until the final buzzer.
