A streaky season has hopefully seen its most recent chapter come to a close for the Capilano Blues as they lost a fourth straight game after a 4-0 start to the campaign.
The Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners took a straight-sets win Saturday afternoon at CapU's Centre for Sport and Wellness to claim both ends of the weekend doubleheader.
Maya Jovic was a bright spot for Capilano Saturday with two aces and a block while Ashley LeSage registered one kill in her first action of the season. VIU's diverse attack proved difficult for the Blues to defend as they shared the ball equally to Megan Duffy, Emma Schill and Regan Ingram who had seven kills apiece.
On Friday night, the Blues took the opening set in dramatic fashion, coming from behind to take it in extra points 27-25, but weren't able to carry the momentum forward as they eventually dropped a four-sets loss to the Mariners.
Annika Kuznik and Nnya Mbaoma each reached double-digit kills but the Blues offense was scrambly for long stretches, with errant passes making it tough to generate consistent swings at the VIU defense. Kuznik also got in on three blocks and served up a trio of aces.
