5th-year Alanah Dulong earns her third nod of the season and rookie Andrew Cerqueira earn Athlete of the Week honours.
Alanah Dulong is the Capilano University women’s Athlete of the Week.
The fifth-year veteran from North Vancouver scored each game and led the Blues to a pair of wins on the road at VIU, keeping Capilano atop the PACWEST standings.
In Saturday’s weekend opener, Dulong was tapped to take a penalty kick in the 78th minute with her team up a goal and she delivered the insurance tally in a 2-0 victory.
On Sunday, Dulong had the game’s only goal, a stunning volley from outside the 18-yard box that eluded the VIU keeper and stood up as the winner in a 1-0 result. Dulong upped her season total to a team- and career-high seven goals.
Andrew Cerqueira is the Capilano University men’s Athlete of the Week.
Playing out of position much of the weekend in a defender spot, Cerqueira helped the Blues concede just one goal with smart positional play and deft skill getting the ball up the field.
The Coquitlam, BC native played a key role in the clean sheet win Sunday which allowed the Blues to remain in the hunt for the PACWEST playoffs. The first-year business student has been a versatile piece of the Capilano lineup this season and gives coach Steve Millar a reliable option at any part of the park.
