The 2024 PACWEST men's and women's soccer All-Stars were announced Wednesday and five Blues players were named.
On the women's side, veterans Maya Smith and Mya Fraser earned the nod for the second and third time respectively. For the men, Tommy Millar was named for the second year in a row while Riley Marshall and Sebastian Cirotto are first-time All-Stars.
Maya Smith is a mainstay in the Blues midfield and orchestrated much of the Blues offensive attack this year. She recorded three goals on the season, second most on the team. Her tenacity on the ball and competitive streak make her an indespensable piece of the Capilano starting 11.
Mya Fraser is in her final season in Blues colours and a third PACWEST All-Star nod is fitting for the veteran defender. Already among the Blues top-25 goalscorers of all time, Fraser was required as a central defender this season and solidified the back line.
Tommy Millar took the captain's arm band again this season and again proved a crucial part of the Blues formation in the middle of the park. A go-to guy for corner kicks and set pieces, Millar also found the back of the net himself this season. His ability to battle for position and make himself a target for outlet passes allowed the Blues to command possession at important times.
Riley Marshall provided stout work as a defender this season and generally made life difficult for opposition attackers. His height and athletic ability make him a threat on set pieces and his work rate allows him to cover the park and stamp out scoring chances.
Sebastian Cirotto proved his six goals as a rookie were no flash in the pan and went two better this season with eight tallies in 11 games, leading the PACWEST. His quick-strike ability and nose for the net showed up at key times for the Blues and helped them secure points more often than not in 2024.
Both Blues sides are in PACWEST semifinal action Saturday, Oct. 26 at Langara's home turf, Willoughby Park in Langley. The women's semi kicks off at Noon Saturday with the men's semi following at 3:00 p.m.
