It was a gritty, low-scoring battle to kick things off between the #6 ranked Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats and the #3 ranked Blues, but the Blues came out on top 75-60.
Both teams exchanged tough baskets and relentless defensive stops during the opening quarter. From the tip-off, it was clear this game would be a physical contest, with neither side able to build a significant lead. However, the Bearcats did establish an early 8-0 lead.
Arshya Ghasemi was a standout for Capilano, putting up some big points. His ability to finish in tough situations was key, and his leadership on the floor and the bench was evident throughout the game. Russell Curley had a strong game for the Blues as he scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. He could be a key player for the Blues as they head toward playoffs if his shot stays hot.
The energy on the court was matched only by that from the bench, where the Blues kept the atmosphere electric. Players stayed vocal and engaged and were constantly pushing their teammates to dig deeper on both ends of the floor. It was clear that the team was thriving on collective effort and determination.
The Blues received contributions across the board; everyone was making a meaningful impact on the game, and the bench tallied a total of 38 points. Some other key players were Damien Coleman, who was a force on defense, picking up 11 defensive rebounds, and Kash Lang, who went 10/10 from the free-throw line.
The end of the game proved to be a nail-biter as the Blues emerged victorious after a late push by CBC.
Come watch the rematch tomorrow at 7 pm at the Centre for Sport and Wellness as the Blues look for a sweep on the weekend.
