The back-and-forth matchup Saturday afternoon had the Capilano Blues prevailing (20-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-18, 17-15) over the Camosun Chargers in a huge come-from-behind victory.
The Capilano Blues men’s volleyball team came into today’s match hungry to bounce back after a hard-fought loss in a five-set thriller against the Camosun Chargers yesterday. Despite dropping the first set 25-20, the energy in the building remained high, keeping the momentum alive for the Blues.
The second set was a completely different story. After a strong start, Capilano found their rhythm and quickly gained a 17-12 lead. The Blues didn’t let up, going on an impressive run to extend the advantage to 22-13. They cruised to a decisive 25-18 win, levelling the match at one set apiece.
The Blues kept the positivity high in their huddles throughout the game, even when Camosun had the momentum, which eventually helped them fight their way back into the game. The third set saw the Chargers seize control, overpowering the Blues 25-16. The fourth saw the Blues prevailing with their backs against the wall, winning 25-18 to force a fifth set for the second time this weekend. The fifth set was a long one that saw both teams trying to ice the opposing server, but it was the Blues that were able to outlast the Chargers, winning the final set 17-15.
The game saw big performances from many players. Xavier Masztak came up big on both ends of the floor with 10 kills and 4 blocks. Kingsley Ndu had another big game with 13 kills, as did rookie setter Liam Martin, who set his teammates up all over the floor. Quentin Middleton had some huge kills and blocks to end the game and help get the result for the Blues.
The Blues will be playing at home for the rest of the season! After this thrilling win, they’ll be eager to keep the positive momentum going. The next games are coming two weekends from now, February 7th and 8th.
