The three-point shot, with its increased importance in today’s game, made the exact difference in the Capilano Blues latest results, a pair of defeats at Camosun College.
CapU shot 4-of-21 Friday in a 79-58 setback as the home side went 11-for-30. The difference in points accumulated from three was the exact difference in the final score.
It was the same story in Saturday’s rematch with the Blues going 7-for-31 while the Chargers were good on 13-of-28 in a 75-58 victory. Again, things could have gone the Blues way if they could have evened things out from three-point range.
On Friday, an ice-cold Blues start did them is as they were down 27-8 after 10 minutes. Camosun had three players – Cormick Brown, David Finch and Jamie Palamos Molins – each hit three from downtown while the only Blues starter to hit was Kash Lang, who drilled a pair of threes on his way to 21 points.
He was aided by Russell Curley, who came off the bench to hit a pair of triples in a night that saw him collect 16 points and 11 boards.
On Saturday, Capilano started better and held a one-point lead after the opening frame but the second and third quarters were all Chargers, led by Brown who scored 18 of his 30 in the third to put Camosun up 25.
David Featherston Jr. was the Blues high scorer Saturday with 14 points while Damein Coleman packed his stat line with 11 points, five steals and four blocks.
The defeats at Camosun leave Capilano at 6-6, third in the PACWEST standings, heading to the exam and holiday break.
The next action for the Blues is Jan. 17 and 18, 2025 when they host the Columbia Bible College Bearcats at Capilano’s Centre for Sport and Wellness.
