Justin Pamintuan scored 19 points in 17 minutes off the bench and took Game MVP honours as the Capilano Blues took the bronze medal with a 97-88 win over the Okanagan College Coyotes Saturday at the PACWEST Provincial championship.
Sukhraj Garcha and Kash Lang each scored 21 to lead the Blues on Saturday. Garcha scored 12 of his total in the second half and shot 9-of-13 from the floor to help the Blues back onto the PACWEST podium.
There was not an overabundance of defensive stops either way in the first half as the Blues took a 54-53 lead to halftime. Capilano added four points to its lead over the third quarter, with Garcha and Zach Klim each hitting threes, while Inder Deol had 11 of his 13 points in the frame.
Scoring slowed in the fourth quarter, but that was when Pamintuan did the bulk of his damage with nine points, including a pair of threes as he ended up 4-of-5 from downtown for the game.
This was the final PACWEST game for Blues graduating players Kash Lang, Anthony Tamburrino and Zach Hamed. Lang was later named to the PACWEST Tournament All-Star team.
Saturday's result was the fourth consecutive medal finish for Capilano in the playoffs as they have gone gold-bronze-gold-bronze over the last four seasons.
