After a heartbreaking last-minute loss yesterday, the Capilano Blues came out determined to bounce back and did so in impressive fashion, defeating the Langara Falcons 102-64.
From the opening tip, the Blues set the tone with their solid defence, forcing turnovers and putting pressure on Langara. They were very efficient offensively, hitting massive shots as a team, going an impressive 44% from the 3-point line, giving the team a significant lead.
David Featherstone Jr. was a standout performer for the Blues today, scoring 29 points in the win and going a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. He outscored every player on the floor by more than 10 points. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury late in the game. The Blues are hoping for a quick recovery, as Featherstone Jr. is a key piece of their offence heading into the playoffs in the coming weeks. Another top performer was Damein Coleman with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Langara struggled to get going offensively, largely due to the constant pressure the Blues applied throughout the game. The Falcons were unable to match their intensity, especially after the first half. While they made a brief push in the third quarter, the Blues maintained control throughout.
With the win, the Blues split the weekend with Langara and look to carry this momentum forward as they head into a road trip in Nanaimo to play the first-place VIU Mariners this coming weekend. The win should be a big confidence boost as they may face the Falcons in the playoffs.
This was a critical step for the Blues, as it keeps them in strong contention for a top playoff spot. With just a few more games to go, Capilano will look to build on this decisive win as they look towards the postseason.
