The Capilano Blues women's volleyball team showed their strength and resilience once again, securing a hard-fought 3-1 victory (25-22, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17) over the Camosun Chargers in an exciting afternoon matchup at the Centre for Sport and Wellness. The Blues extended their winning streak to nine games with a thrilling back-and-forth contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The match started with a strong push from the Blues, but the Chargers fought their way back into the first set with some unreal digs and defensive plays. Despite Capilano's early momentum, Camosun managed to rally late, but the Blues held firm and closed out the set 25-22.
The second set was a closer contest, with both teams exchanging points and momentum. Capilano dug deep and battled to the very end, but Camosun edged them out 25-23 to even the match at one set apiece. Set three and four saw more of the same intensity, with both teams trading points and neither able to pull ahead by more than a few. However, the Blues’ depth and versatility began to shine through later in the third set and continued into the fourth, with the Blues pulling out the 3-1 victory. Saturday’s match wrapped up just like Friday’s, with Sibby Bos delivering the game-winning kill to secure another hard-fought victory for the Blues
Nnya Mbaoma and Annika Kuznik were both lethal on the attack, with Nnya recording 20 kills and Annika getting 10. Defensively, it was Natalie Rourke stepping up with crucial blocks and first-year libero Ella Green showcasing some impressive digs. They will be key players as the Blues close in on playoffs next month.
With this victory, Capilano remains firmly in control of their playoff positioning as they head into the final stretch of the regular season. The Blues will get a break next weekend and will be back at home on February 7th and 8th, where they will play host to the Columbia Bible College Bearcats.
