The Capilano Blues won a thrilling five-set matchup against the Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 15-11). It was a late night at the Centre for Sport and Wellness, which saw both the men's and the women's teams go to 5 sets with the Bearcats. With both the Blues and the Bearcats out of the playoff race, this game was for bragging rights.
The match was tight from start to finish, with both teams taking control of the momentum at different times. The first set had the Bearcats take control and grab the momentum after a few missed serves. The second and third sets went the Blues way with help from Quentin Middleton, getting 3 aces in a row and shifting the momentum back in the Blues direction. The fourth set was a nailbiter and saw the Bearcats get back into the game. The final set saw the Blues take the victory with the added help of the bench and crowd energy.
It was a big team effort today as we got to see some new players shine, the Blues rotated their lineup quite significantly with people playing in different positions than usual and new players slotting in. Brayden Labossiere was one of those players and made an immediate impact, contributing to the scoreboard and the energy of the gym with 8 kills and 2 blocks. Kingsley Ndu has proved to be a valuable piece for the Blues and continued to show up today with 14 kills and 2 aces. Tonight was also alumni night, which added to the gym atmosphere and experience. They had their own seating section.
Tomorrow, the Blues will try to repeat tonight's gritty victory, facing off against the Bearcats once again at 7 pm. The boys look to build on this momentum to close out the season next week strong against VIU.
Come and support your Blues!
