In a hard-fought battle, the Capilano University Blues fell to the Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats by a final score of 85-74 in what was a gritty, back-and-forth game from start to finish.
Lauren Tomlinson got the Blues on the board early, knocking down a three-pointer to set the tone for the game. She was a big asset for the Blues recording 14 points, 3 from the 3-point line. Much like yesterday’s matchup, the game was tight from the opening whistle. Both teams exchanged blows, and the first half was a seesaw affair, with neither team able to build a comfortable lead. The physicality of the game was evident as both teams struggled with foul trouble early on. Despite that, the Blues tightened up their defense compared to the previous night, making key stops to keep the game close.
At the half, Capilano led by just 41-38, but momentum was on their side as they came out strong in the third quarter. Back-to-back three-pointers from Mia Parkin and Lauren Tomlinson pushed the Blues’ lead up, forcing the Bearcats to call an early timeout to regroup.
However, a few controversial calls seemed to swing the momentum in the Bearcats’ favour, and they began to gain control. With the Blues struggling to maintain their rhythm, turnovers became a problem, especially late in the third quarter. The Bearcats capitalized on the Blues’ mistakes, taking a 64-63 lead heading into the final quarter.
Despite a valiant effort in the fourth, the Blues couldn't recover from their turnover issues and were unable to regain control of the game. The Blues’ defense showed improvement compared to the previous day, but ultimately, the Bearcats’ timely plays and the momentum swing in the second half helped them secure the win 85-74.
Mia Parkin led the way once again today with an impressive all-around performance with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Maddy Coffin was crucial in the paint for the Blues, tallying 17 points, and Lauren Tomlinson had 14 points, making 3 clutch 3-pointers.
The Blues look to regroup as they take on the Douglas College Royals away next weekend in New Westminster.
Leading the way in tonight's loss.
