A pair of team-high performances in weekend splits earn Athletes of the Week recognition as playoffs near.
Annika Kuznik is the Capilano University Blues women's Athlete of the Week.
The fourth-year right side had a season-high 24 kills in a weekend split against visiting CBC.
In Friday’s five-set affair, Kuznik registered a season-best 16 kills, posting a strong .333 hitting percentage. The 5-foot-8 Delta native had less game time to work with in a straight-sets win Saturday but still posted eight kills while picking up an ace.
For the weekend, Kuznik’s 24 kills came along with 12 digs and a pair of blocks.
Damein Coleman is the Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
Coleman packed the stat sheet both games for the Blues, helping them to a weekend split at VIU, which gave the Mariners just their second loss of the season.
In Friday’s opener, Coleman went for a team-high 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting while pulling down nine boards with two blocks. With a short turnaround to Saturday afternoon, the 6-foot-6 native of Baltimore showed no signs of fatigue as he shot 6-of-9 for 14 points with two more blocks, three boards and a game-high nine assists.
For the weekend, he shot 60 percent (12-of-20) for 30 points with 12 rebounds, 12 assists, four blocks and two steals.
