When the calendar flips to 2026 and Blues teams return to action, there are some significant all-time records that will be in the crosshairs for current Blues athletes.
First up may be all-time rebounds in men's basketball. Current career leader Luke Wera tops the Blues list with 406 career boards over 90 games from 2008 to 2014. Hot on his heels right now is fourth-year forward Zach Klim who concluded the first half of the 2025-26 campaign with 386 rebounds in 68 career games. Capilano opens the second half of the season with home games Jan. 16 and 17 against Okanagan College. It'll be no easy feat, but with 20 rebounds over those two games, Klim would move past Wera for the all-time Blues lead.
An extra twist of fate in this records chase? Wera has remained in the game as an official and is scheduled to work the Jan. 17 Blues home game. If the ball bounces his way, Klim could overtake Wera with the latter in attendance with a whistle around his neck.
On the women's hardwood, another all-time mark is being threatened. Blues career scoring leader Carmelle M'Bikata (1,163 points in 99 career games between 2013 and 2018) could be caught and passed by fifth-year forward Maddy Coffin. With 1,032 points over 90 career games so far, Coffin would need 132 more points to pass M'Bikata. Coffin is currently averaging a career-best 17.7 points per game and is on pace to make it happen with 12 games coming up in the New Year.
M'Bikata is also the Blues career leader in rebounds with 658 but third-year Blues forward Barcha Hnizdilova, who has averaged 9.6 boards per game over two-and-a-half seasons, may also move past M'Bikata's as she sits on 577 rebounds going into 2026.
Another Blues all-time mark that could be bested in January is in the team category. The 2004-05 Blues women's volleyball team, under Hall of Fame coach Wayne Desjardins, began the season 11-0 to establish a mark for most consecutive wins to open a season. The current Blues team is 10-0 at the midway point of the schedule, ranked No. 2 in the CCAA, and with home games Jan. 9 and 10 against Douglas College. Success both nights to open the second half of the schedule would see this season's Blues squad set a new mark.
Capilano hosts Blues home games in each of the first two weekends of the PACWEST schedule to begin 2026 with volleyball Friday, Jan. 9 (6 p.m. start) and Saturday, Jan. 10 (5 p.m. start) and basketball Friday, Jan. 16 (6 p.m. start) and Saturday, Jan. 17 (1 p.m. start).
