The Capilano Blues held the Camosun Chargers to just 24.2 per cent shooting and prevented any Chargers players from reaching double-digit scoring on the way to a 63-41 win in the PACWEST quarter-final Thursday.
Capilano set the tone early with a 20-12 advantage after the opening 10 minutes that saw Lauren Tomlinson hit a three with Mia Parkin, Maddy Coffin and Barcha Hnizdilova each scoring four points.
The Blues held Camosun to just nine points in each of the second and third quarters while Sheleese Hoilett got hot scoring five in the second and six in the third on her way to a team-high 17 points with four rebounds and two assists.
A decisive third quarter all but ended things in Capilano's favour as they outscored Camosun 24-9 behind nine points from Coffin. The Blues didn't shoot the ball all that well on the night but were aggressive around the rim, getting to the line 29 times and converted 24 times from the stripe while Camosun was just 4-of-11.
Hoilett took the Player of the Game nod for the Blues Thursday. The win puts Capilano into Friday's semifinals where they will take on the No. 2-seed Douglas College Royals in a 5:30 p.m. start.
