The Capilano Blues used a dominant second half on the way to a 84-72 win over the Columbia Bible College (CBC) Bearcats to claim the bronze medal at the PACWEST Provincial Championship Saturday evening.
CBC took 47-38 lead to the locker room at halftime thanks to a 29-point second quarter that featured 13 points and three threes from Jayla Huynh.
A determined Blues said asserted itself in the third quarter with a pair of threes from Alexa Kusel and a couple of buckets from Barcha Hnizdilova to get within two heading to the final frame.
It was all Blues over the final 10 minutes as Lucia Lopez scored seven of her 12 on the night while Capilano held CBC to just 11 points.
Maddy Coffin was named Player of the Game for Capilano after recording 21 points and seven rebounds in her final game for the Blues. She was later named to the all-tournament team, the second season in a row she's earned that honour.
This was the final game in the fine Blues careers of Lauren Tomlinson, Sereena Hothi, Maddy Coffin, Alexa Kusel and Sheleese Hoilett.
It's the second consecutive PACWEST bronze for Chris Weimer's team.
