The Capilano Blues fought through three tight quarters before flipping the script in the fourth, to secure a gritty 72–68 Seniors Night victory over the Langara Falcons.
CapU opened with strong attacks to the rim, as Afu Bullock and Anthony Tamburrino set the tone early. Langara responded with a quick run to edge ahead 17–15 after the first quarter.
The second quarter shifted the momentum. Zach Klim tied the game at 17–17, and Kash Lang added to the scoreboard at the free-throw line to give CapU the lead, while Alfonso Reyes and Josh Vandevelde added key baskets to extend the Blues to head into halftime up 33–30.
Out of the break, Klim came out aggressive with back-to-back layups to stretch the lead to 38–32. But the Falcons refused to back down, capitalizing on turnovers and keeping the pressure high. The game tightened heading into the fourth with Capilano down 49-48.
The turning point came in the final two minutes. After Zach Hamed and Lang combined on back-to-back baskets to cut the deficit to one from 68-62 for the visitors. Klim added a powerful dunk, giving Capilano a 69–68 lead, forcing Langara to call a timeout. The Blues locked in defensively from there, before free throws from Lang and Bullock sealed the momentum shift and the game at 72-68.
Saturday was the final home game for seniors Anthony Tamburrino, Kash Lang, and Zach Hamed. The PACWEST provincial tournament at Camosun College is the next action for the Blues. As the No. 3 seed, Capilano will take on Columbia Bible College in the quarterfinal.
The Blues were also victorious in their match against Langara in Vancouver the previous night by a score of 86-85.
