Maddy Coffin is the Indigo Park Canada Capilano University Blues women's Athlete of the Week.
Coffin matched a career high with 35 points Saturday to lead the Blues to a weekend sweep on the road at Okanagan College.
In Friday’s opener, Coffin hit a pair of threes on the way to a 16-point night where she added three boards and an assist.
In Saturday’s game, the veteran forward went off, scoring 14 in the first quarter on her way to tying her personal best outing for points. Coffin added nine rebounds, six of those on the offensive glass, and chipped in an assist and a steal. Her 51 points on the weekend came on 51.5% shooting, and she had 15 makes from the free throw line.
She also becomes only the second women's basketball student-athlete to ever crest the 1,000 point mark in her career.
Xavier Masztak is the Indigo Park Canada Capilano University Blues men’s Athlete of the Week.
The Australian import was a frequent target for the Blues setters, helping his side take both ends of their weekend against visiting CBC.
In Saturday’s three-set victory, Masztak reached double-digits in kills for the second time this year, putting away 10 to give him a total of 17 for the weekend.
The 6-foot-4 outside hitter was phenomenal on serve receive in both matches, with repeated clean touches to get the Blues offence in rhythm. He also recorded two solo blocks in each match and totaled 17 digs for the weekend.
