The Capilano Blues Men's Basketball Team secured their second straight win over the Columbia Bible College Bearcats on Saturday night, grinding out an 88-83 victory behind a composed second half and a dominant showing from its veterans. The win moves the Blues to 8-4 on the season, keeping them firmly in third place in the PACWEST standings.
Unlike Friday’s matchup, the Blues didn’t wait until the third quarter to find their rhythm. Instead, they weathered CBC’s early rush and leaned on the steady scoring of Zach Klim, who had a game-high 24 points on 11-24 from the field. Klim was also relentless around the rim, grabbing 15 rebounds. Zach Hamed proved to be important for the Blues defensively as he recorded 11 defensive rebounds, stopping CBC from getting gritty baskets under the hoop.
Capilano found its footing in the second quarter thanks to a push by Kash Lang. He ended the night with 13 points while also pulling down 8 rebounds and adding a pair of steals and assists. Lang’s energy shifted the pace and started a 12-4 run that dragged the Blues back into the fight after trailing early.
The turning point came after half-time. The Blues tightened up defensively and held CBC to tough perimeter shots while pushing themselves offensively. Sukhraj Garcha added 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists. His composure helped Capilano win the third quarter, the same quarter CBC struggled with Friday night.
Afu Bullock delivered one of his most efficient games of the season, going a perfect 6-6 from the field for 12 points and 7 assists, including back-to-back layups in the second that helped stop the Bearcats from gaining momentum.
Carter Andrade returned to the match early in the fourth quarter, promptly draining back-to-back three-pointers to extend the Blues lead to eight points at 76-68. Points they would need as CBC continued to battle behind a hot shooting stretch in the final minutes, closing the gap, tied at 81. But Capilano’s experience showed late as both Klim and Garcha made key layups to reassert control of the match.
For the second straight night, Capilano proved they can win in different ways. Friday’s win was dominant, and Saturday's win was resilient. With another victory under their belts and contributions coming from all around the roster, the Blues look to take a holiday break and pick up where they left off in January for the second half of their season.
