Continuing a trend that now goes back three weekends, the Capilano Blues (1-6-3 PACWEST) picked up standings points from their latest PACWEST results.

The Blues posted back-to-back ties with Douglas College (2-4-4) as part of a home-and-home weekend that saw the Royals host Saturday and the Sunday games at CapU’s main campus.

Sophie Pather and Sasha Faris each scored in the second half of Saturday’s game on the way to a 2-2 draw. Neither side was able to score Sunday in a nil-nil result, the second such outcome in the last three games for the Blues and the third clean sheet of the season for Blues goalkeeper Rachel Laakmann.

On Saturday at Douglas, the Royals opened the scoring in the 34th minute after a corner kick. Capilano couldn’t clear a loose ball which eventually bounced to Lucie Baker who first-touch volleyed it inside the near post.

Douglas held the one-goal edge well into the second half but in the 67th minute, CapU did some nice work to earn possession with Faris calling for the ball near the top of the area. Katelyn Kendall connected a long feed to her and Faris did the rest, beating Vanessa Chung inside the left post.

The home side went ahead six minutes later with Talia Trasolini converting off a corner kick but the Blues didn’t resign themselves. With less than 10 minutes to go, Faris sent Pather in on goal after some good work in midfield by Leah Herald and Pather executed flawlessly with little separation from the Douglas defender, putting it just inside the right post.

Back at home Sunday, the Blues got a flurry of corner kicks delivered by Kai Belbin in the 16th minute but couldn’t do anything with them. Meghan Ferguson was called on for a pair of corners midway through the second half, the most dangerous chance came from the second of the two with a loose ball in the area but Pather’s left-footed drive sailed high.

Laakmann made five saves on the day.

Capilano remains in fourth spot in the PACWEST standings, four points back of Douglas for the final playoff spot. All teams have a bye for Thanksgiving weekend. The Blues return to action Oct. 18 at the CapU Squamish turf field when they host Vancouver Island University in a 1 p.m. kickoff.

The PACWEST regular season wraps for the Blues on Sunday, Oct. 19 with a game at Langara.
